Overview of Department:

Our motive of the department of periodontology at TKDC is to provide excellence and innovation in education, patient care and scientific discovery in our specialized field and also to provide patient care with utmost precision and compassion as well as educate them about the importance of personal oral hygiene. Department of periodontology was established at Tatyasaheb Kore Dental College and Research Center, New Paragon in year 2002. MDS program was started and recognized in the year 2013. Department have good infrastructure and dedicated teaching faculty for the benefit of students. The department deals with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease with various non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures.

U.G. Teaching
Students of B.D.S. III, IV year and interns acquire knowledge through clinical practice as well as case discussions. Special importance is given for undergraduate teaching to diagnose periodontal diseases, followed by treatment planning. Through special clinical training students are trained for professional competence in patient communication and education regarding prevention of periodontal diseases.


P.G. Teaching
The postgraduate course in Periodontology is a three-year programme. Aim of the course is to impart a comprehensive knowledge of recent evidence-based findings in periodontal pathogenesis and microbiology, various non-surgical as well as surgical treatment modalities. In addition, special clinical training is given to the students which helps to gain lot of experience in a wide range of periodontal procedures including scaling and root planning, minor periodontal surgeries, periodontal flap procedure, Periodontal Regeneration procedures, Periodontal 
respective procedure, Periodontal plastic procedures, Dental Implant placement and management of the associated complications with Implant therapy, laser and photo biomodulation.
Patient Care. The Department of Periodontics runs a well-equipped outpatient clinic. Over sixty patients are managed on a daily basis in the OPD. The treatment options include various non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures. Also, department educate patients about oral hygiene techniques and maintenance. The objective is to provide comprehensive and personalized periodontal treatment to all patients.

Departmental Facilities:

  1. Undergraduate as well as postgraduate section complete with 25 dental chairs equipped with all instruments

  2. Soft tissue laser

  3. Electrocautery

  4. RVG and Xray machine

  5. Advanced periodontal regenerative materials including synthetic bone graft materials, regenerative and barrier membranes along with avant-garde centrifuge machine

  6. A separate sterilization room following a rigorous protocol for care of instruments

  7. A department library

  8. A seminar room with lcd projector and screen for seminar presentation

  9. Postgraduate room

  10. One staff room, three reader rooms, one research room

Departmental Achievements:

  1. Total distinction holder in the subject of periodontology in final BDS (2018-2022) was 22

  2. Dr. Abhijeet Shete was appointed as LIC inspector for MUHS

  3. Dr. Chetan Sugandhi was appointed as LIC inspector for MUHS

  4. Dr. Pradnya Khatavkar was appointed as LIC inspector for MUHS

  5. Dr. Sumit Shetgar is pursuing Ph.D program

  6. MUHS research grant received by Dr.Kaushal Kothavale 2 nd year PG student university examination

  7. Dr. Swati Adasul was 1 st university topper in the subject of periodontology at MDS part I

  8. Dr.Pradnya Khatavkar was 3 rd university topper in MDS final university examination.

  9. There are more 60 publications done by staff members.

  10. Total 4 books published by the department.
